Hi Birders  & David Geering,
The normal most eastern distribution in NSW of the Apostlebird that I have found is at Birriwa (it has a wheat silo and it used to have a one teacher school), somewhat to the north of Gulgong between Gulgong and Dunedoo, although I don't pass that way very often these days .  "Handlist of Birds in NSW" 1981 Morris, McGill & Holmes gives the eastern distribution as : Inverell, Tamworth, Denman, Wellington, Cowra, Boorowa, Gundagai & Walbundrie. Your record of 8 km NW of Mudgee would fit with that eastern limit, noting that the line from Denman to Wellington  is an east west line that skirts around the Great Divide. I doubt if the record would represent an eastern extension of range. I have regularly seen them along the Mudgee -Wellington road.
