In response to Edwin's message of 19 January - on 8 October, 1999 Allan
Ible and I saw a party of Red-backed Wrens (including at least two
males) in a patch of long grass on a hillside adjacent to the end of the
Pitlochry Road about 19km NE of Gloucester. This was in a dairying area
- mainly cleared land with some remaining native vegetation. When we
checked our field guides later, Gloucester and the Hunter River were
mentioned as the SE limit of their range.

As we had seen these birds at Bachsten Creek in the Kimberleys just a
few months earlier, we have now seen them close to the NW and SE
extremities of their range.
