Dear all,
Interesting to note the decline of Cockatiels from the West Wylong area.
During recent travels around the Deniliquin, Hay, Coleambally and Jerilderie
area I have had no problems in seeing these birds in abundance. Of
particular note were the two groups greater than 100 birds in size. These
were seen on the Conargo - Carathool road near the property Barrabool, and
then at the Oolambeyan Road intersection. Other groups have ranged between
15 - 50 birds. A majority of observations were of the birds feeding along
roadsides on grass seeds. Others have been in Boree perched.
Other interesting observations are the birds of prey which at the moment are
apprearing in flocks. On the Conargo - Hay road I have seen two different
groups of Australian Kestrels, 7 birds in the first group, 11 in the second.
Nine Wedge-tailed Eagles on the Conargo - Hay road near Willurah (Property
name). And also a group of 8 Black Kites in close vacinity. No
Black-shouldered Kites though??? These before Christmas were often seen, but
not at the present. Saw my first one for the year on Sunday 30 Jan near
Morago (north east of Deniliquin).
Cheers
David Parker
