birding-aus Native lawn substitute

Can anyone suggest a good native substitute for lawn? I would prefer
something that is indigenous to Melbourne, as an example Kidney Weed
(Dichondra Repens). 'Tussock' type grass would be acceptable as one of the
last resorts. I would also appreciate the recommended soil type and
moisture/shade requirements.
