Hi everyone

I think I will have the opportunity to spend the weekend 15/16 January (and perhaps 17th) in the Adelaide area following some work there next week, and hence would love to hire a car and get some birding done.

I’d appreciate suggestions as to where to target within, say, a 2.5 hour drive of Adelaide city.  Would need hotel/motel accommodation as I won’t be able to bring camping gear with me.  Are there any field days/weekends being organised by the local birding groups that I could possibly join please?

Birds of particular interest, if they are feasible in the area, are:

Rufous Bristlebird

Black-eared Cuckoo

Red-chested Button-Quail, Little Button-Quail

Lewin’s Rail, Spotless Crake and Baillon’s Crake (yes it’s ridiculous that in 12 years of birding, I still haven’t seen these – we’re just never in the same place at the same time !!)

Blue-breasted Wren

Shy Heathwren

Varied Sittella – black-capped form

Rufous Treecreeper

Grey-fronted Honeyeater

Elegant Parrot, Rock Parrot

Western Yellow Robin

I might as well ask for an Inland Dotterel while I’m at it.

All help to add to my life list and reach that magic 500 would be much appreciated (7 birds to go).

Happy birding to you – I know it makes me happy
