birding-aus January 5 is bird day?

According to a postcard (ecard variety) list I am on, the 5th of January is
Bird Day.
No particular source is quoted.  Does anyone have an alternate bird day to
offer?

This morning there was a galah in a neighbour's almond tree.  It didn't
stay long.

If the picture comes out (the film is not yet developed), I think we saw a
falcon near Lakes Entrance.  It had a white "V" on its underside and glided
along.  It had a "finger pattern" at its wing tips, similar to a Whistling
Kite's.

most frequently seen in their backyards, I could collate those and perhaps
