A male Koel has reliably been reported calling (and seen) this morning in
the Melbourne suburb of Mont Albert. It is apparently moving about the area
a bit. The observer is familiar with the bird from north Queensland
experience.
This is interesting because reports of Koels are becoming almost an annual
event in Victoria and it follows on from the Channel-billed Cuckoo in
October'.

This is even more interesting because I heard, but did not see, what I am
almost certain was a male Koel at my place in Heidelberg Heights,
Melbourne, at 0730 hrs on Sunday 28 Nov. By the time I had roused myself
enough to stumble outside, I heard only a few more calls from the next
street then silence.

I have not recorded Koel in this district in 20 years of living there.
