Gooday birding-ausers,
Recently during a wader count at the Bowen Saltworks, 20.01 148.13 Queensland, I noticed the following behaviour by 22 Black-fronted Plovers. The first indication of activity was the "metallic clicking" call of the birds. The birds circled upwards in unison in a tight spiralling formation continuously calling until they reached approx. 15 - 20 m height. At that point the birds descended earthwards in a scattering of birds that eventually landed enmasse at a shallow area of a pond where they started to feed. This is the first time I have observed such behaviour and immediately checked my HANZAB for any reference.
Has any other birding-auser observed such behaviour?
