Stephen Edwards and I went birding out at Scheyville, Richmond, Windsor,
and Mitchell Park-Cattai yesterday... here are the highlights...
1. LITTLE LORIKEET - 2 at Scheyville National Park/Scheyville Paddocks -
first time I've seen them there.
2. AUSTRALIAN OWLET-NIGHTJAR - heard one calling at Mitchell Park. First
time I've ever heard one call during the day.
3. WHITE-WINGED CHOUGH - 12 in a front yard near Whitmore Rd. turn-off
from Scheyville Rd. (I think). Interested to see one using its foot to
hold snail and then prize out slug with its beak. Intelligence!
4. PALLID CUCKOO - Heard calling at Scheyville.
Missed out on a lot of birds I'd hoped for ie. Black Bittern,
White-browed Woodswallow, Speckled Warbler, Powerful Owl, Painted
Button-quail, Spotted Quail-thrush, Square-tailed Kite, Spotted
Harrier...
The two of us got 84 species in less than seven hours. We were hoping
for 100!!!
Peace,
LGJ.
