Hi all,

Somewhat behind with my emails from birding-aus and also the wader
counts. I have just processed the October counts from most sites along
the Queensland coast.

Russell Woodford wrote:-

Keith & Lindsay Fisher reported lower than usual numbers of most waders
coming through Cairns. Have other people along the flyways noticed
this? Can we have more info on any of the following?

* Lower than normal numbers on migratory routes this season
* Later than usual movement of some species
* Different routes chosen for migration of some species
* Different stop-over points for some species
* Significant events that may have affected waders in breeding grounds
or
en route

I respond to two of the above:-

Looking at some of the figures on sites in Moreton Bay it would appear
that Red Knot numbers are possibly a little lower at some sites. Other
species appear to be fairly normal this season.

Movement of species (again in Moreton Bay) also do not appear to be
later than normal with records showing arrivals from late August
onwards.

Having said all that, we cannot draw conclusions until all the data has
been processed and compared to previous years information.
