Hi Chris
You're obviously new to this caper.  Birding-Aus often gets stuck on an issue
for a few days - even a couple of weeks - but that usually passes.  They're
called "threads" in Internet jargon.  I can almost guarantee you that the
Twitchathon will be a completely dead issue until about September next year
after this little thread dies down over the next few days.  After all, it is
still less than a week since the actual event took place!  ... and I don't
believe there's any malice in the friendly banter that has been taking place.
Good luck with the mallee malurids!  I'm off to Gunbower Island on Monday -
hope this rain stops soon.
