For long I've resisted the temptation, but it's starting to get to me. :-(
I've got to put in my five-cent's worth.

Frank O'Connor offered this Argyle gem (pun intended) of wisdom:

>Personally, I regard Tasmania as being part of "mainland Australia",
>certainly in the context that Tony used. If Tasmanians don't (or anyone
>else doesn't) then it is their problem and not mine (or Tony's) ...

My sympathy tends to be with the Taswegians - for them this common attitude
of mainland Australians (especially those in government) can be A REAL
PROBLEM. But carry the thought to its logical conclusion: if an
induhvidual is ticking names to impress other induhviduals, then why not
tick anything he/she wishes, and under any circumstances? If someone
objects to the basis of the tick that's their problem.

However, if the desire to see a new species is a result of an interest in
birds, then presumably the satisfaction will come from the experience in
the field, and recording this will involve more than a tick on a list even
if the 'recording' is only in the memory.

Oh yes, and if anyone wants a few more ticks, head for O'Reilly's in
Lamington National Park (south-east Queensland). Easily obtained at
present, according to O'Reilly's semi-tame Naturalist, Glen Threlfo ...
from whose torso I removed one last week.

There. I feel better now. :-)
