There seems to be some difference between "ticking" and
"recording".  Perhaps ticking is what people do with bird lists
on paper and recording is what they do using a computer ?

More seriously if all those dead birds had not been recorded in
the 1960s the case against DDT would not have been as
emotionally impressive.

Incidentally, I have some brilliant "possibles" on the computer:
must print them out as a tickable list one of these days.
