I spent a lot of time walking through the mallee at quite a few locations
(36 atlas sheets completed for the four days) averaging about an hour and a
half at each location. The spinifex looked magnificent, as did the
Budgerigars feeding in it almost everywhere I went. I got one very brief
but good view of a male Mallee Emu-wren with food in its bill but no
Striated Grasswrens despite thinking that one would pop into view any
moment.

Now, I don't expect to see everything that might be seen in an area but
this was one bird that I had been quietly expecting to see. Does this
species become ultra-reclusive when breeding? Another bird to see on
another day.
