I spent most of today birding at various places in and around Bendigo in
central Victoria, as I begin to reconnoitre sites for the upcoming 1999
Twitchathon. I managed 111 species in about 6-7 hours without trying
too hard - it's looking like a great year!! The list is attached below
my signature block.

Highlights included close views of a Spotted Harrier plucking a small
bird (Skylark or pipit??); a flock of 50+ Red-kneed Dotterels; lots of
Cockatiels; Pink-eared Duck on a nest; lots of honeyeater species; a
pair of Spotted (Yellow-rumped) Pardalotes nesting in a road bank; a
splendid pair of courting Great Crested Grebes; ..........

It's not too late to get involved in the Twitchathon - either as a
competitor or sponsor ...... check out my Twitchathon home page .... and
get on board.
