On Saturday 4th Sept, while visiting the Beetaloo Reservoir in the Flinders
Ranges, (approx thirty kilometres east of Port Pirie in South Aust.) I saw
at least one, possibly three, New Holland Honeyeaters which were mostly
white. The one we were able to examine closely had a black cheek and the
yellow in the wing. There were some grey markings or lines within the
predominantly overall white.
I would be interested to read of any information people may wish to share
about "white New Holland Honeyeaters".
I was not able to stay long to follow up my sightings.
If anyone is able, or interested, the birds were near the parking and
toilet area at the second or furtherest in parking bay.
Additionally, it would be good if people who know the area have any
comments to assure me that the three ducks, seen at a distance in rough,
choppy water were blue-billed ducks. They chose not to fly when disturbed,
electing to swim across the water. They appeared to have a blue bill when
the fleeting sun shone on them but all three seemed to have a dark brown
head compared with the remainder of the body which was a lighter
brown/grey. I could not see the tails.
