G'day All,
Just saw this message on Birdchat (US) and thought that it might
interest a few people, the front-end shot of the Shy Alb is a corker!

******* Shy Albatross and White-faced Storm-petrel images ******

I have posted some pictures (actually video captures) of the adult Shy
Albatross seen off Point Arena, California on a recent Shearwater
Journeys
pelagic. Congratulations Debi on a really awesome trip!

and a White-faced Storm-petrel seen on a recent Brian Patteson trip out
of
Oregon Inlet, North Carolina. Likewise, very well done to Brian for
finding
the day's target bird in the first 10 minutes!!!

On some browsers the images may appear rather dark and lacking in
contrast.
This is something I hope to correct in the next day or two. Sadly, even
Photoshop cannot fix the dreadful blurry wings on the storm-petrel! I
suspect Brian and others will have mega images of this very cooperative
bird.

I am particularly anxious to recieve informed comment on the subspecific

identification of the White-faced Storm-petrel. Can anyone direct me
towards (or better still donate) pictures of birds of known origin (i.e.

from the Salvage Islands and thus presumably representing P.m. hypoleuca
or
the Cape Verde Islands, presumably P.m.eadsi).

A lot of additional seabird material will be added to the site over the
next few days, so check the "latest additions" page regularly.
New/improved
material will also be added to the Shy Albatross and White-faced Stormie

pages.

Enjoy!

Angus Wilson
