Highlights of lists from members of the Blue Mountains Bird Observers for
JULY 1999.

Nothing really unusual to report this month. Breeding activity is getting
underway with at least the following species reported building nests in
July: Australian Wood Duck, Spotted Pardalote, Brown Thornbill, Rockwarbler,
Australian Magpie, Common Blackbird.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

WHITE-HEADED PIGEON ? One at Blackheath on 29-30/7. (This and the following
species have become fairly common in the lower mountains and sightings on
the upper mountains seem to be increasing.)

BROWN CUCKOO-DOVE ? See above. One at Blackheath on 27/7.

GLOSSY BLACK-COCKATOO ? 2 near the gate on the road to Ingar camping area,
Kings Tableland on 21/7. Heard at Kings Tableland on 1/8.

YELLOW-TAILED BLACK-COCKATOO ? Still in large flocks. 30-60 reported several
times at Woodford and a flock of 100 at Kings Tableland on 1/8.

NOISY FRIARBIRD ? First returned at Lapstone 25/7, Woodford 27/7, Hawkesbury
Heights 31/7, Kings Tableland 1/8 and Faulconbridge 2/8. (There were no
reports of overwintering birds in the area.)

WHITE-PLUMED HONEYEATER ? A few birds were still reported around the lower
mountains (normally uncharacteristic for the area) including one at
Faulconbridge for two weeks, feeding on insects.

ZEBRA FINCH ? Reported from Glenbrook, possibly escapees although there are
populations of these in western Sydney.

EUROPEAN GOLDFINCH ? a flock of 10-12 at Wentworth Falls Lake on 18/7.
