Beware the e-mail spell checkers - they have American English as their
default. In the same way a whole generation of kids are learning to
spell the Microsoft (Word) way, the rest of us could easily lapse into
the same Americanization [sic] of Australian English. Most word
processing software has the option to set spell-checkers to "English,
Australian", but in my experience many people don't avail themselves of
that option. Most mailing software I've seen does not allow a
dictionary other than the default American (Microsoft Outlook/Exchange,
Netscape, Eudora, Pine, etc.....).

American English is fine in America, but the local brand is equally
colourful and expressive - let's look after it.
