Spring returns to the Blue Mountains, too. Our first Noisy Friarbird was
seen at Lapstone (at the foot of the mountains) on 25th July. Since then
we?ve had reports of sightings on several days, especially last weekend
throughout the area. It?s interesting to compare the dates with Canberra. I
think we?ve had a mild winter, too. We?ve only had one light snowfall so far
and not as many frosts as usual.
I heard the first small flocks of Yellow-faced and White-naped Honeyeaters
migrating south today.

It makes sense for the big birds to be among the first back, in terms of
body heat loss. It's been a mild winter here (relatively!) and lots of
Yellow-faced and Fuscous HEs have stayed on, which happens in such years.
