Hi everybody,

Lawrie's question regarding the Western Gerygone and its return "after" winter proved quite pertinent. Only last Friday I observed a Western Gerygone at Mulligan's Flat, which is on the north-western edge of the ACT. It was singing its "falling leaf melody" quite regularly, which is what alerted me too it - I have never seen these before, only White-throated Gerygones. I only found the one, and I don't know what their numbers should be like after their return for summer - maybe this was an overwintering bird, I don't know.

There have definitely though, been a group of about 3 Noisy Friarbirds in the eucalypts here outside my window at ADFA. They seem to be feeding on lerps, which has lead to some confrontations with the Red Wattlebirds which have also stayed on in larger numbers. There have been no confrontations with the rosellas however. So, this overwintering must be an across the board phenomenon for the ACT this year?
