Keen tickers & taxonomists may be interested in a recent paper by Les
Christidis in the Australian Journal of Zoology.
In the paper "Evolution and biogeography of the Australian grasswrens,
Amytornis (Aves: Maluridae): biochemical perspectives" he proposes that A.
striatus striatus and A. s. merrotsyi be treated as separate species elevating
the latter to A. merrotsyi (a restricted population found in the Flinders
Ranges). He recommends this on the basis of genetic distance. He did not
examine the other race A. s. whitei.
The reference is Australian Journal of Zoology, Volume 47 Number 2, 1999.
cheers,
Susan
