the ABC Natural History Unit has a very large archive of recorded natural
sounds which has been accumulated over the last 25 years or more. Many
years ago a friend was paid to listen to meters and meters of taped sounds
to identify and document the bird calls, distribution and habitat of the
species etc. Presumably, any producer who wishes to dub the soundtrack
with calls of appropriate birds can readily access this archive.

Instead of all this conjecture, why not phone the Natural History Unit at
the ABC in Melbourne and ask them?

Peter
