Hi All,
As reviously advised, I am collating information at present for the NSW
Annual Bird Report for 1997 and there are three species for which I have
received little information but concern is being expressed about their
conservation status in cerain parts of NSW, viz Apostlebird, Southern
Emu-wren and Grey-crowned Babbler. I am therefore requesting information
on these three species in respect to 1997 from contributors of
Birding-aus.
Martin O'Brien considers that the Apostlebirds are declining in western
NSW along the Murray River, at least from Euston westwards, but also
west of Canberra ACT. I would like information on location and flock
size of Apostlebirds seen along the Murray River in 1997 and since then,
and any evidence of a decline for the species in that area known to the
observer, as well as information on the closest observations of
Apostlebirds by observers to the ACT..
For Southern Emu-wrens, Michael Mathieson, of the Queensland DNR who is
preparing a species management profile for the species in Queensland,
would like information on flock size, date and location of any
observations in the Upper Clarence River catchment (only), particularly
in the vicinity of Surface Hill, Cataract Rise, Koreelah Range,
Wodenbong and Gibraltar Range.
Finally, if any one has information on a decline of the Grey-crowned
Babbler in NSW, particularly in respect to 1997 ie was there in 1996 but
could not be found in 1997, or was recorded at a location in 1994 but
could not be found during a visit in 1997 etc I would be happy to
receive same.
