Thanks Syd,

I'm now completely confused. I can at least take heart in knowing that the
Oxford and the Macquarie can't agree on the matter. Language evolves and I
suspect that the Macquarie copes better with this concept than does the
Oxford. I wonder what the Macquarie's source was, perhaps Campbel and
Lack's or Newton's dictionaries of birds?
