Did anyone else see the Striated Heron on the Great Outdoors or some
similar show a couple of weeks ago? It was at a resort on the Tweed River,
northern NSW/Queensland border. It collected a piece of bread and dropped
it in the water, waited until fish came to feed on the bread and then
grabbed one. Innovative creatures aren't they. At a spot near where we
live in inner surburban Brisbane (Kalinga Park), people excessively feed
the ducks (Anas superciliosa), turtles and eels with bread and a couple of
Striated Herons seem to be doing a similiar thing. They wait until fish
are eating bread and grab the odd one. These birds are still relatively
shy.

Cheers
