Hi everybody -

I am passing on this message posted to WADERS-L regarding Pacific Golden
Plovers being colour-banded on Johnston Atoll in the Pacific, as it is
possible that some of these birds may turn up in Australia next austral
spring and summer (the 'spring' in the message presumably refers to the
boreal spring - a reminder to all of us who send information across the
hemispheres not to be chauvinistic about which side of the equator we live
on).

Cheers,
Hugo

SHOREBIRDERS: Please keep your eyes on Pluvialis plover legs this spring!
We've been banding golden-plovers (Pacific and American) and Black-bellied
Plovers for many years at Oahu, Hawaii and Nome, Alaska. More recently, we
started marking Pacific Golden-Plovers at Johnston Atoll. Each bird wears
a USF&WS metal band plus some combination of color-bands (a few have
flags). It is important to record the exact sequence on each leg, and
whether there is a color-band above or below the metal band. Send
observations with as much information as possible to: Oscar Johnson, Dept.
of Biology, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, USA 59717 (e-mail
