Build nestboxes by all means - providing you follow a design suitable to
native birds and not one which will encourage starlings, Indian mynahs
and sparrows.

Birds Australia often puts up messages - unfortunately I dont have
address written down here and now.
Note that an external perch attached to box, as in most American plans,
makes entry easier for introduced birds. I understand that local birds
eg
Rosellas can cope with an internal baffle which foils the mynahs etc.
Nestboxes once installed require supervision - to evict mynahs etc.,
also honeybees. They should be carefully sited - putting them up in
public open space can be a great help to people who want to collect
young parrots from the nest.
Remember that possums, gliders, and bats like nestboxes too.
This is not meant to discourage you, rather to ensure that your kind
efforts aren't wasted.
