I had great pleasure last week watching and listening to a "native
bell-bird" in Queeenstown, NZ.
Its species name is Anthornis melanura, according to a small field guide I
bought.

Unfortunately the guide does not refer to families.

My question:  Is Anthornis melanura a honeyeater (specifically family
meliphagidae)?  If not, to what family does it belong?

I was also surprised to see that the NZ fantail is a race of Rhipidura
fuliginosa.  But its tail and breast are different to any Australian race,
as far as I can determine from various field guides.  Does this version of
Rhipidura fuliginosa exist in Australia?
