I thought that I might let everyone know (in case anyone was
interested) the latest with the reedwarblers that are up here at Pormpuraaw
(western side of Cape York). Over the last couple of days I have managed to
catch three and on the basis of body measurements I believe they are Clamorous
or Australian Reed Warblers. I'll keep looking out for Orientals though-
reedwarblers that is.
weight 13.5 -17 g.
Head-bill length 37.3 - 38.4
Culmen length 14.5 - 15.2
Tarsus 24.2 - 25.5 mm.
Wing 67-69 mm
Tail 55 - 57 mm
No streaks on chest and orange mouths. All three with old worn
plumage but no moulting. The numbers of reedwarblers are gradually building up
in the area and so I assume that they are just the first birds to have arrived
from down south.
