There has been a Magpie goose for a number of weeks at the Balnaaring
primary school wetlands(southern Mornington Peninsula)I haven't checked
to see whether it is still there for a couple of weeks. I would be
interested to know whether the Braeside Goose is the same bird.
Over recent weeks there have been Glossy Ibis at the Edithvale wetlands
(not far from Braeside)A not so common bird for us southerners! Also
wonderful views of Wood Sandpiper from the bird hide and Spotted Crake
and Red-kneed Dotterel at close quarters.
There seems to be more Red-Knees around this year and a large number of
juveniles which is pleasing.
A few people have been mistaking them for Hooded Plovers! Slight change
of habitat!!
If any Mornington Peninsula residents haven't been to the Balaaring
wetlands, it is well worth a visit. It is a credit to the primary school
who have obviously put a lot of planning into its creation.
                                                     Bett Mitchell
