Folks,

The following notes might be of interest - first three from Glen Waverley/
East Burwood area (suburban, 20 km E of Melbourne GPO):

Little Falcon and Nankeen Kestrel apparently playing over and around East
Burwood Reserve last week - perching near each other, then tail-chasing
closely, with frequent role reversals. Little falcons are commonly seen in
the area and nested nearby in 1997/98, but I hadn't previously seen a
Kestrel here.

Grey Currawongs appear to be present in small numbers - maybe just a pair
or two - since early December.

First Needletails for the season at noon on Sunday, about 10-12 birds, in
warm, stable weather conditions. I've looked when most of the storms and
cold fronts have come through since Christmas but without success.

Quick look at Edithvale wetlands (Springvale Road) last Thursday, from the
ramp next to the fence near the hide - lots of Teal, Black Ducks, Stilts,
Coots, etc, plus a Common Sandpiper, 2 Australian Spotted Crakes out in the
open and at least 3 Red-kneed Dotterels

Misteletoe-birds in Glen Iris at the weekend - usually around and vocal in
spring, not usually so conspicuous by this time of year.

Regards,

     Jack
