We visited Scheyville National Park this morning. It was a perfect morning
weather wise and there was quite a lot of blossoming Grey Box (Euc.
moluccana) and the signs of more to come. Since becoming a national park
there is at last a decent gate at the entrance in Scheyville Road but there
is still old car bodies etc along the track. However, opposite the gate is
a hole in the fence to the forest on the eastern side of the road and there
is a semi-circular horse track through the Grey Box which graduates into
Narrow-leafed Ironbark. This is where we spent most of the morning.
Highlights were two male Scarlet Honeyeaters, a Yellow-faced Honeyeater
nesting beside the track, a Brown Gerygone several kilometres from any
rainforest, Shrike-tits, White-throated Gerygones and Speckled Warbler. We
recorded 31 native species on our walk.

I have recorded Scarlet Honeyeaters in the Sydney area in Feb, March, May,
September, November & December. I imagine they are about in the other
months but I haven't noted it. Perhaps others would care to comment.
