Hi,Paul Walbridge here,paid Pt.Danger in
southern QLD.a visit today 31/1/99,with notable sightings being 6 Streaked
Shearwaters and an adult White tailed Tropicbird.While the Tropicbird was a
bonus bird (we do get them here occasionally) the Shearwaters could be expected
to hang around the area for the next couple of months.A couple of tips for
anyone local or anyone passing through wishing to see the ' Streakeds' ;a)bring
a scope,b)wait for the run-out tide from the Tweed River.Shearwaters sometimes
congregate here in their thousands at this time of year mainly due to several
species of engraulids,or bait-fish massing around the Tweed mouth and Streaked
Shearwaters are quite often present sometimes quite close in.A Buller's
Shearwater was present at this site just a couple of days ago and is also seen
here often when these conditions prevail.Hope some of you manage to visit this
site soon and if there happens to be a good S.E. blow while your there,you might
pick up a bonus bird or two.Good birding,Paul.
