Hello Jill,
Last Saturday, 16th January, there were 3 Albert's Lyrebirds heard
clearly
from the Boarder Track. About 4 k from the entrance at Binna Burra and
about
1 k before Joalah Lookout you cross a ridge on the Beechmont Range with
the
Coomera Gorge on your right. An Albert's Lyrebird calls reliably from
the
Gorge but on Saturday there were 2 birds calling from very close at hand
on
the ridge on your left hand. The closest call was within a few meters
of the
track immediately before topping the ridge. I did not see the bird but
I'm
sure it knew I was there as when I stopped to listen it stopped too and
moved
off a little. It was again calling when I returned from Joalah Lkt.
Years
ago I did run into one on the path here. I believe Joalah means
Lyrebird.
Best of luck.
Regards,
Ros Laundon.
