Hi Victoria
This AUSLIG site is quite handy for coarse lat/long readings:

but it's not accurate enough for atlassing. In the absence of a GPS, you
can't go past topographical maps. I always use both anyhow, as a GPS on its
own is a lot less useful than one used with reference to a decent map. The
national 1:100,000 sheets are OK for most purposes - the major lat/long
marks are there, and you can get down to 10" accuracy with a ruler and a few
short division sums. The 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 state maps are even better
for this purpose - where available.
