With the flooding over the last few
months the ibis have started breeding in the Booligal wetlands along with most
(if not all) other waterbird species. The population of Straw-necked Ibis has
been estimated at 50,000+ birds which along with the Macquarie Marshes possibly
holds the majority of the Australian population. I haven't heard any reports for
the Paroo, but I would think there is the possibility of breeding also. It
marvellous that species can respond so quickly to such flood
events.
If birdos wish to experience a once
in a life time event, I would suggest they head out to Booligal. On Monday there
was an extensive array of birds to be seen from the Cobb H'way.
