In the past I have noted the amazing number of Torresian Crow nests built on
electric power pylons between Charters Towers and Townsville.

On a recent trip I made a point of seeing how many pylons had no nests -
there were very few. Many pylons had three nests and one even had five (I
think that is the maximum that could fit into the steel structure). A number
of nests had a Crow in attendance.

I did not see any other species using the nests. The observations were made
while I was driving so I did not carry out any prolonged observations.

There are 5 pylons to the kilometere and the distance from Charters Towers
to Townsville is 130 kms. That is one hell of a lot of nests to be seen
while one is driving.
