All this talk of Rainbow Lorikeets has forced me to relate the case of Jandowae on the Darling Downs.

I spent 3 years living and birding in Jandowae (pop. 780).  In those three years, I did not see one Rainbow in my yard or indeed west of the park in the middle of town although they were common in the park and to the east and north.  I am talking distances of 200 metres with similar fauna.

Why the sudden cut off point?  Does anyone have any idea?
