As far as I know, they were not.  Colour marking waders has been carried
many times in various places and I am not aware of any evidence that marked
birds have suffered increased predation as a result.  Given that the marked
birds are also banded, it would in theory be possible to derive evidence of
differential mortality from retraps.  If you (or anybody else)  would like
to analyse AWSG data in about three years time, after the next NW Australia
expedition, you may find some correlation.
