A visit to the Western Treatment Plant at Werribee (Victoria) on Sunday
with Diana Bryant, Chris Lester and Glen White produced a rather
significant find, courtesy of another visitor to the "Farm", whom I had not
previously met, who provided directions.
In the general vicinity of the Farm are a pair of Brolgas, apparently on a
nest. Brolgas in Victoria are uncommon, and near Melbourne certainly less
so, although I understand they have previously been present at Werribee.
Unfortunately, they are sufficiently close to an access road that stopping
and observing them caused them both to walk warily away from where we were
observing them. Concern re possible/probable disturbance therefore has
limited my posting to this general information. I did feel however that
the sighting is of sufficient interest and importance to at least go this far.
