I was interested to learn that Chris Dahlberg has Brown-backed Honeyeaters
nesting earlier than usual at Daintree. Perhaps its the very mild 'winter'
we've had that has caused the early nesting that is going on in Townsville
too.

Brown-backed Honeyeaters were nest building on Townsville Common in the
first week of July and a White-browed Robin at Cromarty, 50Km south of
Townsville, had a nest almost completed last weekend. A Mistletoebird has
been gathering nest material from a melaleuca in my garden and Peaceful
Doves are calling and copulating after only a couple of quiet months.
Great Bowerbirds have built their bowers for the season and are active.
There are four bowers within easy walking distance of the Rowes Bay Caravan
Park, one just over the fence in Bishop St.

Cheers
Jo Wieneke.
