We used to think the Catbird was rare too, but since moving up here to
Pomona (Qld Sunshine Coast) we have discovered that there are several
lurking
in and around the town itself, in little pockets of scrub (not rainforest,
but mostly Blackbutt/Greygum/Brushbox/Wattle sp.) On one occasion while
out for a walk in residential part of town, we discovered one slap-dab in a
very
sparse clump of wattles beside a creek, completely surrounded by
open paddocks on one side of the street and on the other, all houses.
There it was calling to for all it was worth, oblivious to us less than 30
feet from it.
In fact, I once had the pleasure of seeing one perched in a Euodia tree
(about 10 metres in height) above the house, checking out the status of the
seeds. Mind you, we do live in natural bush, adjoining the State Forest,
but none of it qualifies as rainforest by any stretch of the imagination.
As for locations closer to your home, I have never failed to hear them in
and around my brother's at Eagle Heights. The section of forest on
the northern approach to Tamborine - just before you arrive at the 'gallery
walk', and in fact, they come daily to his birdbath, or to take pieces of
fruit which he leaves out for them and the Satin Bowerbirds.
Best of luck
Jenny B. of Pomona

Dear List
We have a lot of expertise on this list and I hope that I can ask you for
advice.
Certain birds are particularly difficult to find and we all have our
frustration's in finding them. Maybe someone can help me.

My particular frustration is Green Catbird.
I have never seen it in the Rainforest despite many , many excursions to
seek it out in the SE Border Ranges of Qld, particularly around
Springbrook. I hear it call, ever so close, and yet I never see it.
Please give me some expert advice
Cheers
Mike
