I guess this is a joke Chris, but just such a list started recently.
It's called BARD = Birds Australia Research Directory, run from LaTrobe
University's zoology department. BARD is unmoderated, but the allowable
range of content is _very_ tightly defined, and I presume that sinners
will be punished.
Personally I'm not sure what the fuss is about. I read some Biding-Aus
mail from work during the day, and then some nights I download via a
28.8k modem to my home account. Even 30-40 messages take only 1-2
minutes to download from my ISP (Telstra BigPond), and at local call
rates that's less than 1 cent per message!! Irritating though they
might occasionally be, the deluge of B-A chatty messages cost me almost
nothing to scan & trash.
