There is a woman by the name of Sarah Legge at the ANU who I believe is just
finishing her PhD on cooperative breeding in the Laughing Kookaburra.

Sarah may be able to help with info or direct you to relevant books/papers.

You could try emailing her at or get in touch with the
Botany/Zoology Dept. at ANU.

Cheers

Can someone please suggest the definitive book for kookaburra info?

Any ideas on the best place to find details on the life of Kookaburras? I
have read Wm Eastman's "The Life of the Kookaburra & other Kingfishers"
Angus & Robertson, 1970, but would value more observations. Would like to
know eg. time taken to gain adult size (seems to me about 8-10 wks?),
diseases they suffer, interactions with other birds. Would the Vet. School
library be the best, or could you put me in touch with a specialist. I am
not an ornithologist, simply a retired medical doctor who is trying to
write exciting fact-based fiction for children.
Thank you,
Pat Bale
