Some years ago I had a personal guided tour of London Zoo (under
threat of closure at the time - did it survive?). My guide said the
next exhibit would make me home sick as it was a "Pennant's Parrikeet"
(or something similar). In those days I was not a keen birder so was
not surprised that I had never heard of this wonderous beast - imagine
my surprise that it was a Crimson Rosella. I have since seen one or
two books give it as an alternative name, but the Poms were clearly a
bit anachronistic on that one as well.

Just about to finish a biography of John Gould and it gives him credit for
introducing the budgerigar as a pet in London probably around 1841.
