SYDNEY, NSW PELAGIC TRIP REPORT 14th February 1998
Trip Summary:
Once again unusually quiet for this time of year. The volume of birds
being significantly less than usual. However the days highlights
certainly made up for this. Fine views of two great rarities.
White-necked Petrel and White-tailed Tropicbird (an immature bird).
Also unusual at least for Sydney Harbour was a record of an Australasian
Grebe. Once again the best birds were sighted close to Brown's Mountain
(a local sea mount). Also amazing was the ocean temperature recorded at
26.2 degrees celcius.
Conditions:
Fine and warm.
Water temperature 26.2C once beyond the shelf.
Departed at 7.30 am and returned at 3.00 pm.
Predominantly Northeast winds 5-10 Knots
