Highlights from twice-weekly Canberra Ornithologists' Group (COG) hotline,
for fortnight ending 2 January (some reports are of earlier obs).

Again a couple of notable curiosities.

SPOTTED, SPOTLESS, BAILLON'S CRAKES, BUFF-BANDED RAIL; AT LEAST 15 VERY
VISIBLE LATHAM'S SNIPE 22 December all present at suburban Jerrabomberra
Wetlands - the 4 simultaneous crakes were a first! [within 5 days of that
the swamp completely dried out, and now not a bird is to be seen]

BLACK KITE 24/12 Jerrabomberra

PLUMED WHISTLING-DUCK 26 December 1 in Commonwealth Park, the centre of
tourist Canberra!!! [not unique, but amazing!]

BLACK FALCON 29/12 Roses Lagoon (on Federal Highway, ~30k on Canberra
side of Goulburn, near Collector - a great stop!)

AUSTRALASIAN BITTERN 29/12 Roses Lagoon; 2 birds booming, presumably
displaying males
