On a weekend diving trip to the Abrolhos Islands I managed to sneak in some
bird watching. The highlight, albeit a strange one, was seeing a pied
cormorant alight from the water followed very closely by a flying fish.

Birds seen on Beacon Island included:

Bridled terns - many nesting
Roseate terns - several pairs in breeding plumage
Fairy terns - nesting x 5
Crested tern
Pied cormorant
Osprey
Common sandpiper
Ruddy turnstone
Red-capped plover
Silvereye
Pacific gull
Silver gull
?? Spotless crake ... I didn't expect to see this
?? Red-necked stint
