Hi All,

Tom Smith asked me to post this.

Like all of us, Tom has his bogey birds and for him Red Phalarope is
a particular problem. Apart from missing the Australian ones, he
didn't see them at Churchill, Manitoba, and arrived at Monterey,
California, a week after thousands were in the bay to find ... NONE.

Since Tom is an inveterate birder who doesn't muck about with more
mundane things, he is off to Macquarie Island this weekend and feels
it is highly probable that a Red Phalarope will turn up in Australia
while he is away.

I therefore implore all birders to keep their eyes peeled for this
migrant, especially in easy-to-reach locations near large
metropolises, between 30 November and 10 December while Tom is

Many thanks!

David Andrew
